Checklist for plus size dresses
I am far from a fashion expert, although I do love all things feminine, classic and figure flattering, as you might be able to tell from the range at Killer Curves. I'm not one for following the latest fashion particularly for its own sake - what's the point? The whole idea of clothes is to accentuate our positives, minimise the negatives, help us feel confident in what we are wearing and to have fun (that's my take on it anyway!). So I think this all particularly applies when choosing a dress, because if you are anything like me, you don't tend to wear many except for going out on special occasions, and then it's a real treat and very exciting getting all done up! So what do I think are some guidelines for buying the right dress? Well, the following I think are essential.
1. Buy something you can wear again and again. The key is versatility. Since we don't wear really nice dresses that often, if you are only going to get maybe 6 wears out of it a year if its very formal say, and a few more if it is more in the style of a cocktail dress (if your lucky - as a stay at home mum I can't say my social life is that abuzzing!!)then you really don't want it to be out of fashion next year!
2. Make sure it is generally comfortable. If the whole point of getting all dressed up and going out is the fun of it all, what's the point if the material itches, feels like a canvas sack, or is so revealing that you worry all night about having a 'wardrobe malfunction'? Seriously all those silly starlets that have these 'unexpected' wardrobe malfunctions, have they even seen the dress the they are wearing? How they manage to stay un-malfunctioned for so long is the amazing thing!
3. Make sure it has something interesting in the design. A sash, some lace, a cute sweetheart neckline, rich colour, a cinched waist - something that really does make it a special item, so it is not just a longer version of a nice top that you might have worn instead. There is something really fun about girly clothes - I wish for some of the gorgeous dresses of the Gone With The Wind days to come back in vogue, but sadly somehow I think it'll never be!! So that's about all I can think of for the moment regarding choices of dresses. My favorite on Killer Curves at the moment are the Retro Glam Lace Dress, the Scalloped Boudoir Lace Dress, and the Vivienne Cinch dresses for a cocktail outing. They seem to tick all the boxes for me as far as the above requirements. Let me know if I've missed anything in my advice here!
Here is an example of what I'm talking about! She seriously didn't know that was going to happen?!!
